Any Air conditioning system is designed, assuming maximum occupancy, lighting and other heat producing loads occurring simultaneously on a peak summer afternoon. In actual practice, such full load conditions may occur only for a few hours in a year.

Hence for almost 95% of the year, the system works on partial load conditions only. The efficiency of any machine is maximum when it operates at its rated capacity. The power factor also drops steeply at partial load conditions. Thus the users DO NOT SAVE much on power bills even during partial load operations.

With a THERMOBANK back up system, the cooling plant can be designed to meet the AVERAGE load on a peak summer afternoon. The short fall during the day time will be made up by storing the excess capacity available in the nights in an insulated THERMOBANK TANK. As the plant will be running at near full load all the time, less power will be consumed. As soon as the THERMOBANK tank temperature reaches 2 Deg C, the refrigeration machinery will be stopped in steps. (During non peak summer times, the plant will have excess capacity even during day times. Hence for office buildings, the main refrigeration plant can be shut off for a few hours a day in colder months.)

Double Tariff for electrical power is likely to be introduced soon. Hence LARGE SAVINGS on power can be achieved by running the main plant at night times, when the tariff will be less to sub cool water and use this cold water to Air condition during day times, when the tariff will be more.
